Welcome Reception

Tuesday, the 2nd December, is reserved for Workshops, Tutorials and Project Meetings.
It is also the day when most delegates will arrive to Braga to participate on the VAST 2008 Symposium, which will have its initial session on the following Wednesday morning.

So, Tuesday evening is the right time for an informal gathering of all attendees, and this Welcome Reception is planned to be at Museum Nogueira da Silva, at the city center, in Av. Central.

The reception opens with a musical moment at 19h00, in the "Salão Nobre". Porto wine and "Vinho Verde" (lit.: "Green Wine") will then flow with a light buffet menu based on tasty Portuguese gastronomy.

Release of the bilingual Coa Valley book: CANCELLED

The VAST 2008 Symposium also celebrates the 10th anniversary of the recognition by UNESCO of the Rock Art in Coa Valley as World Heritage: the organization challenged the former Director of the National Rock Art Centre, António Martinho Baptista (currently at PAVC), to finish his new book on the Coa Valley Rock Art and to include an English version, to be released during the Symposium.

The author accepted, and organization provided financial support to print some copies of this bilingual edition (which would be the 1st in the world with such contents in English) and planned an official release ceremony at the Capitulo Room in Monastery of Tibaes, on Thursday, 4th December, at 19h00, before the Gala Dinner.

Unfortunately, due to the highly complex nature of this fully illustrated 250 pages master piece, the printing process had some significant delays that prevented the book to be ready to be released during the 10th anniversary celebrations at VAST 2008.

As a consequence, the organization regretly informs that this session had to be cancelled.

Gala Dinner

The Symposium dinner will take place on Thursday, 4th December, at 20h00 (after the book launching cerimony), on the former stables of the Monastery of Tibaes.

The menu will be based on XVII century recipes found in the Monastery Library, and will take into account the type of food the Monks served on December festivities.

Transport will be provided for all participant and additional guests, from the main Hotel and from Museum D. Diogo de Sousa (the Symposium place) at the end of the scientific sessions.

Excursion to Coa Valley

On Friday, the 5th December, once the Simposium talks end, a coach will take the visitors to Foz Coa, a town in the Coa Valley at around 250km from Braga. This field trip to the Coa Valley will last until Saturday afternoon.
