Coa Valley Field Trip

Excursion Program

Friday, 5th December
  • Trip by coach to Vila Nova de Foz Côa with departure from Braga at 15.00 pm. Located in the heart of the so-called "Alto Douro Vinhateiro" (which means Wine Region of Alto Douro, being the latter one of the most important rivers in Portugal), this region, with over 26k acres, was classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, in the category of Cultural Landscape.
  • Recreational wine tasting at Quinta do Vale Meão, near Vila Nova de Foz Côa. Vale Meão is one of the most famous Douro Wineries, producing both Port Wine and Douro table wine .
  • Check in at the Vale do Côa Inn, followed, at 20.30 pm, by a regional dinner at the "O Bruíço" restaurant.
Saturday, 6th December
  • Continental breakfast at the Inn (8.00 am).
  • Travel in 4WD cars to the site of "Canada do Inferno", one of the most important locations with Palaeolithic engravings in the Côa Valley

 

  • Also in the Côa Valley, visit to Museum and Farm of Ervamoira (11.30 am) where participants will have the opportunity to see the large vineyards, the site museum and to have a wine tasting followed by a regional lunch in a spectacular scenery (image gallery)
  • Return voyage back to Braga by coach (estimated time of arrival: ≈ 19.30 pm).
