MAP-i is the joint doctoral programme in Computer Science of Universidade do Minho, Universidade de Aveiro and Universidade do Porto (MAP), three top universities in the north of Portugal.

MAP-i constitutes a unified effort to prepare highly qualified human resources in Computer Science and an effort to strengthen research in this area in these universities. It is supported by an academic staff of more that 150 faculty, whose research and development activities cover a wide range of topics, ranging from theoretical and fundamental aspects to the experimental and applied areas of Computer Science, and comprehend wide-ranging collaborative work with leading IT-companies in this country and abroad.

MAP-i was set to target both national and international student candidates and is designed for excellence and competitiveness at the international level. It aims to prepare selected students for leadership in research and development careers in industry, academia and independent entrepreneurial initiatives.

MAP-CMU Partnership

The MAP Consortium is very much involved in the CMU-Portugal partnership between Carnegie Mellon University and the Portuguese Universities, implemented through ICTI, the Information and Communication Technologies Institute. Doctoral students funded by the CMU-Portugal initiative will carry their studies both in Portugal and in the United States, will be co-advised by CMU faculty and MAP-i faculty, and on completion, they will entitle to dual degrees awarded by CMU and by the universities of the MAP Consortium.

MAP-i & UT Austin Joint Research Program

MAP-i is engaged in a Joint Research Program in the field of Advanced Computing within the framework of the UT Austin|Portugal Program (CoLab), promoted by FCT. Within this initiative, funded PhD students will spend at least one year at UTAustin, preferably their second year. The doctoral research will be co-advised by MAP-i and UTexas faculty.
