About the joint CMU-UC MSE

The Professional Master of Software Engineering Program, offered jointly by the Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Coimbra, is an advanced program explicitly designed to educate the future leaders of industrial software engineering practice. It aims at training graduates for effectively managing teams, projects and processes, as well as large scale software development. The goal of the program is to develop future leaders of industrial software engineering practice - the future chief engineers, head designers, principal technical officers of their companies.

The MSE is offered as a dual program, where successful candidates receive a Professional Masters from Carnegie Mellon and a Master of Science from the University of Coimbra. This program is run as a distributed version of the original Professional Master of Software Engineering. Students spend one semester at CMU and three semesters at the University of Coimbra, contacting with a rich environment which allows them to master the area of software engineering. On the CMU side the units involved are the School of Computer Science (SCS), Institute for Software Research International (ISRI) and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI).

Graduates of this joint CMU-UC MSE program will not only understand and be able to apply the best of current practice, but will also be able to act as agents of change to improve that practice as the field evolves.
