Your Wrong Aldo

  by barrycarlyon

Your wrong Aldo.

To upgrade you just need the latest package, the new upgrade software does a nice job, so its not each step in-between now.

The only security problem I've ever had, was an old 2x board, which was about 5 versions outta date, back in the days of 2.0.19.

And giving admin to people who mucked about.

So phpBB is, in my opion, the biggest, best, and most widely supported, in the open source sense ... [More] , Free Bulletin Board software out there.

And since it is open source, you can do what the hell you want with it.

Don't forget http://phpBB.com has been hacked once, and that was awestats fault, as they had a massive security hole.
Not phpBB related at all.

Also gotta love the independent security audit.
And most of the fixes of 3.0.0 to 3.0.2 were not security, more general bug fixes.

phpBB is better than most free bulletin boards.

  by j

After testing out phpBB on a small crash site, I am slightly impressed by phpBB.

The installation was fairly easy, if not enjoyable, and getting my forum up and running was easy. The default design looks beautiful, and there's nothing bad with that either. But there were a few cons.

Those cons were, well. If you wanted to use your time efficiently, phpBB would not be a good BB to use. It's for people who want to invest time ... [More] into their site, and get a lot out of it. If you just want something easy to set up, phpBB is not for you.

Another con of phpBB is modifying the forum is so tiring. I nearly gave up on one modification, and sometimes it's exhausting.

But still, phpBB is a pretty famous bulletin board, and for good reason. It is powerful, secure, and easy to set up. You will get the most out of this program if you invest the time and knowledge in it. [Less]

Why Team Members Don’t Give Private Support

Not giving private support has been a policy on phpBB.com since I joined over three years ago. There is, in fact, a rule against contacting team members for private support:
Support is offered only via these forums and #phpbb on irc.freenode.net. Do not contact team members privately (via any method) to ask for support. Users found [...]

After a month, the second beta for AutoMOD is ready. We would like to thank everybody who tested beta 1. We have fixed a large amount of bugs and implemented support for MODX 1.2.2. A full changelog can be found ... [More] here.

You can find more information about AutoMOD on the AutoMOD page. For support visit the AutoMOD forum. Please report any bugs to the AutoMOD bug tracker.

    Fighting CSRF

Cross-Site-Request-Forgery, short CSRF, is a type of vulnerabilities that gets more and more attention. The concept can be translated as “tricking the browser into automatically performing some action using the user’s privileges”.

Unified MOD Install Library (UMIL) 1.0.0 RC1 Released

    Hello,

The Modifications Team is pleased to announce the first public preview release of UMIL. This tool was built by Exreaction under the supervision of the MOD Team. UMIL is short for Unified MOD Install Library and was created to provide ... [More] a framework for MOD authors to make simple database installation files (scripts) that are compatible with all database systems supported by phpBB3. MOD Authors can now write up a single and simple list of actions that will be used to install, update, and uninstall Modifications using the UMIL Auto system or build completely custom scripts using just the UMIL framework.

UMIL is designed to accompany Modifications to make them easier to install for the end-user.

More information and downloads can be found on the UMI Library page. To get started using UMIL, you can create a simple UMI file using the UMIF Creation Tool.

If you have any problems or suggestions, post them in the UMIL Discussion Topic. If you find a bug, please post it in the MOD Team Tools Bug Tracker. [Less]
