To all who open this "door" to University of Minho - prospective students, members of the academic community and all visitors seeking information.  I wish you welcome.

Created in 1973, the University of Minho is today recognised for the competence and quality of its academic staff, the excellence of its research activity, its dynamism, its great range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, its unique ability for leadership and intervention, its outstanding performance at both a national and international level, and for its high degree interaction with other institutions.

Since 1983, when the University achieved the financial and administrative autonomy to accomplish its main objectives, it has adopted an organisation model characterised by a matrix system of Project Groups (in teaching, research and services) and Resources Units.

The University of Minho has more than 15,000 students enrolled on one of its 50 undergraduate degree programmes. There are over 1,000 students studying at postgraduate level with more than 100 students on doctorate programmes. The academic staff has almost 500 doctorates among its 1,100 lecturers.

The historical cities of Braga and Guimarães, where our two campuses are located, offer a two thousand-year-old cultural heritage alongside a lively modernity populated by young populations.
