About
Technology Open Day
Technology
Open Day is an annual initiative organized
by TecMinho in partnership with University
of Minho (UMinho) with the goal of presenting to
Industry the research developed at UMinho in a specific
area/domain, in order to promote industrial partnerships,
namely through R&D contracts and researchers mobility.
Researchers, teaching staff and spin-offs are therefore
invited to present their R&D results and share with
Industry their vision in terms of future developments
in their field of research. This event is particularly
targeted at the following Industry Sectors: Health,
Environment, Electronic and Automotive among Others.
The second edition of Technology Open Day will
be held at University of Minho, Guimarães, Portugal
on the 15th June 2007. Following the last year’s
success, the 2007 event will focus
on the area of New Materials.
University
of Minho is located in the Minho region of
Northern Portugal, a region with an extremely strong
tradition of vibrant enterprises, essentially of small
and medium-sized businesses.
Founded in 1973, UMinho is one of the most dynamic universities
in Portugal, building a permanent bond with Industry
concerning the creation of many successful partnerships
in R&D and being the 3rd in terms of scientific
production and international visibility. UMinho has
a world-class research in Materials, Life and Health
Sciences/ Biotechnology and Information Technologies
and Communications (80% of the researchers are assigned
to R&D Centres evaluated as Very Good or Excellent
in the last International Evaluation Round). TecMinho
is the institution responsible for the Intellectual
Property Management and Commercialization of Science
and Technology of this University.
Guimarães, city specially selected by the organization
as the ideal venue for the Technology Open Day, is conveniently
located 40km from Porto airport and is classified by
UNESCO as Worldwide Heritage Site for
being an authentic example of full historical memories
carefully preserved for the pleasure and delight of
its visitors.

Programme
The event programme
includes two panel presentations, where we will build
in ample time for networking – and devise a social
programme to encourage interaction.
Networking
and social event
Thursday afternoon the 14th June, the afternoon preceding
the Technology Open Day, we propose a Guided Tour to
the Historical Center of Guimarães, starting
from Hotel Toural followed by a Welcome Cocktail. This
cocktail gives you the opportunity to meet speakers
and other participants of the conference in advance
for a first chat.

About Technology Open
Day 2006
1st Technology Open Day: Micro and Nano Technologies
at UMinho
About one hundred
participants were present at the 1st edition of Technology
Open Day: Micro and Nano Technologies at UMinho, which
was held at University of Minho, Braga, Portugal on
the 13th June 2006.
The conference
Programme was highly appreciated and featured high
calibre keynote speakers.
The event had been divided in two panels:
I Panel (morning) – Open Industry Day: Micro and
Nano Technologies
II Panel (afternoon) – Tech Transfer in Micro
and Nano Tech: Tales and Experiences
In parallel with the 2nd panel, it was offered the possibility
of scheduling face-to-face meetings with the researchers
in the 1st panel.

- How to get to University
of Minho, Guimarães?
By Air
The nearest airport to Guimarães is the Sá
Carneiro International Airport (in Oporto), around 50
Km away from Guimarães.
Bus line number 56 takes you from the airport to Porto
centre (every 20 minutes). You can also take the Aerobus,
an express bus that will take you directly from the
airport to Porto centre (every 30 minutes), without
unnecessary stops. This bus is available Monday to Friday
from 9am until 7pm. From the city centre there is a
number of possibilities for you to get to Guimarães.
By bus
From the centre of Porto you may take a bus to Guimarães
at Parque da Magauanha (close to Trindade), where the
Bus Station to Guimarães is located. See the
following timetable (Monday to Friday):

By Taxi
Should you wish to take a taxi from the airport to Guimarães,
the journey takes approximately 60 min. and the fare
is around 50€.

Technology Open
Day é uma iniciativa anual organizada pela TecMinho
em parceria com a Universidade
do Minho (UMinho) que tem por objectivo apresentar
à Indústria a investigação
desenvolvida na Universidade do Minho com vista ao fomento
de networking interno e externo através da promoção

de investigação nesta área de conhecimento.
No próximo dia 15 de Junho de 2007
realizar-se-á a segunda edição
do Technology Open Day, este ano dedicada à área
dos Novos Materiais, e que decorrerá no Campus
de Azurém da Universidade do Minho, em Guimarães.
Fundada em 1973,
a UMinho é uma das mais dinâmicas
universidades públicas em Portugal e representa
a terceira universidade do país em termos de
produção científica e visibilidade
internacional. Oitenta por cento dos investigadores
da UMinho desenvolvem projectos em Centros classificados
de Excelência, (em áreas como Materiais,
Ciências da Saúde e da Vida/Biotecnologia
e Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicações)
de acordo com a última Avaliação
Internacional realizada.
A TecMinho é a instituição
responsável pela Gestão da Propriedade
Intelectual e Comercialização da Ciência
e Investigação desta Universidade.
A Universidade do Minho fica localizada a Norte de Portugal,
uma região com forte tradição empresarial,constituída
essencialmente de pequenas e médias empresas.
UMinho tem 2 polos separados por uma distância
de 20 km: um na cidade de Braga e outro em Guimarães.
Guimarães foi a cidade especialmente escolhida

visita guiada ao Centro Histórico de Guimarães,
seguida de um Cocktail de Boas-Vindas no Hotel Toural.
Este cocktail permitirá um contacto mais directo
entre oradores e participantes.

o Technology Open Day 2006
1st Technology Open Day: Micro and Nano Technologies
at UMinho
A TecMinho, em
parceria com a Universidade do Minho, promoveu no dia
13 de Junho de 2006, no Campus de Gualtar da Universidade
do Minho - Braga, o 1º “Open Industry Day”
na área da micro e nanotecnologia.
Este evento contou com a presença de cerca de
cem participantes, entre docentes, investigadores, alunos,
um spin-off académico, nove empresas
nacionais e uma empresa britânica.
Enquanto interface
da Universidade do Minho responsável pela valorização
da Propriedade Intelectual nesta universidade, a TecMinho
pretendeu com esta iniciativa promover a investigação
nas áreas da microelectrónica e nanotecnologia
desenvolvida na Universidade do Minho com vista ao fomento
de networking interno e externo através da promoção
de contratos de I&D com empresas nacionais e internacionais
e doutoramentos em empresas.
O evento dividiu-se em dois painéis, “Open
Industry-Day: Micro and Nano Technologies” e “Tech
Transfer in Micro and Nano Tech: Tales and Experiences”,
manhã e tarde, respectivamente.
No primeiro painel
foram apresentadas onze tecnologias de vários
departamentos nomeadamente Electrónica Industrial,
Mecânica, Têxtil, Polímeros e Física.
Durante a tarde tiveram lugar sessões de networking
(20 minutos) entre os investigadores e empresas interessadas
em explorar possibilidades de parceria. Estas sessões
de networking com empresas resultaram em contratos de
negociação com 4 empresas.
No segundo painel,
estiveram em debate as tendências na micro e nanotecnologia
e serão apresentadas algumas experiências
de criação de spin-offs académicos
segundo uma estratégia de bootstrapping Vs acesso
a capital de risco.

Universidade do Minho, em Guimarães
De avião
O aeroporto mais próximo de Guimarães
é o aeroporto Sá Carneiro no Porto, a
cerca de 50 km de distância.
O autocarro número 56 leva-o do aeroporto até
ao centro do Porto (de 20 em 20 minutos). Há,
também, o Aerobus, um autocarro expresso que
o leva directamente do aeroporto até ao centro
do Porto (de 30 em 30 minutos), sem paragens desnecessárias.
Este serviço funciona durante toda a semana das
7h às 19h. Do centro do Porto há muitas
possibilidades para chegar a Guimarães.
De Autocarro
Do centro do Porto poderá apanhar um autocarro
para Guimarães no Parque da Magauanha (perto
da Trindade), onde está localizada a Central
de Camionetas para Guimarães. O horário
é o seguinte:
