The ICCES Programme was easily the best time of my life. It helped me to upgrade the relevance of my study and have broadened my innovative and productive skills to the industrial standards. Throughout the three weeks, my technical, scientific, and research skills were under close scrutiny in a very innovative and research-oriented perspective. Working in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams gave me an essence of real world where the aim is to tackle a given problem in both scientific and industrial perspective enhancing my collaborative skills.

It wasn’t just work though; the breath-taking Portuguese’s architecture, jaw dropping natural beauty and delicious food added extra value to this course. I made several life lasting friends as well without whom this program would never have been as much fun. It was a real pleasure working with the 26 other students from 15 different nationalities. We had our differences and that was what made all this so special; the day long working yet night long laughter.

All in all, I feel this programme has strongly addressed several competencies and have developed in my the skills to work in multidisciplinary teams, being creative and innovative, adopting myself to different scenarios, understanding techniques like abstraction, modelling and simulations while preparing research plans, positions papers and managing complexity under a given timescale. I would like to thank the organisers; namely Bosch and the UMinho, who have managed to put all this together to organise such an amazing opportunity for us all. Thank you very much!

The ICCES 2013 was a great opportunity to enhance my experience. It was an excellent way of improving my skills, to develop my team work competences and to meet new students. I recommend to every Ph.D. student to take this challenge!

The ICCES 2013 program at Bosch in the lovely city of Braga was a great and unforgettable experience. Not only did we get to work on real industrial problems that Bosch is currently facing, we also had a lot of fun doing that. I think that in the end many of us gained a lot perspective on how to use our knowledge in the ‘real world’ and also gained many friends for life from all over the world..

I would definitely recommend to every Ph.D. student to participate in Erasmus IP program. It is a challenge to work on unknown topic, with interesting fellows from all over the world from different branches! You will get chance to show your knowledge and competences, improve your soft skills, team work and also English. You will have interesting tutorials on different topics and will work in motivating friendly environment. If you like traveling, you will also enjoy old Portuguese architecture, building with beautiful tile façades and famous cuisine and Port wine. That’s what makes this course special. Only if you would like to sleep until 10am every day, you should better stay at home :-))

The ICCES Erasmus IP 2012 in Portugal has been a very enriching experience at different levels. With this first edition, Universidade do Minho and Efacec demonstrated that marriage between academics and industry is not only possible, but productive. It also served as a remainder for academic researchers to pursue goals which are beneficial for society. In the personal level it was a really interesting and mind-broadening time because of all the different people involved, with different cultural inheritances, languages, educational background, personalities and senses of humour. It has been a real pleasure and I would like to thank again all people involved in organizing it, as well as all student participants for the many hours shared in hard work and fun time. Definitely, an advisable experience.

As a student at the ICCES Erasmus IP 2012, I gained new knowledge on the fields that were not that familiar to me before. We have worked in groups where I got to know different approaches that other team members used for research as well as I have gained experience on how to work with the industrial partner and cope with problems proposed. The whole project was a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to all students.

The Efacec’s Automation Business Unit was very pleased to participate in the Erasmus Program initiative since its early stages, a challenge aligned with our mission. The promotion of tasks of this nature, leveraging the Industry and University interaction, is remarkable, especially because of the plural scope, bringing together women and men from different cultural and scientific backgrounds. In what concerns the Automation Unit, we recognize the value that, for us, this initiative means, mainly because the subjects assigned to three teams of students are very important for Efacec, particularly for our Unit, as well for the Efacec’s Renewables Unit, which was also a pleasure to work with. The general subject, common to the three mentioned teams was “energy storage”, which was enthusiastically addressed by the students, very well oriented by the teachers of University of Minho. Hoping that in the future Efacec could collaborate again with University of Minho in similar initiatives, I suggest that, at least, one student could develop his/her curricular plan with a closer and longer bond with Efacec, this way, pushing further the synergy that our Company has been developing with that trustworthy academic institution.
